Meet Board Member Paul Chyc

Supporting Empowerment through Education in Haiti

Paul is an electrical engineer working primarily with radiofrequency devices. He emigrated from Canada to the US in 1990 and came to Colorado in 2001. Paul enjoys cycling and hiking and also is a volunteer rescuer and diver with the Boulder Emergency Squad. Paul said that most importantly, he and Betsy, his “menaj” as they say in Creole, have been together since June of 2017.

Paul began attending St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in 2013. By the fall of 2013, Teresa Henry had signed him up to go to Petit Trou on an educational trip. “What an amazing experience and group of people I have been honored to work with,” Paul said.

Paul believes in the power of education to change lives.  “Education is so important to developing critical thinking and opens doors that may otherwise be closed,” Paul said. “CHP’s support of education is the core of our programs. I love the way that GEM builds on that, making it clear that women have rights as well as responsibilities in the community.”
