Lovely

A Solar Technician at St. Paul’s School

Over time, solar can grow to be a solution for lots of overlapping problems in our community. We always take one step at a time - this year we took a big one.

Lovely was born and raised in the community of Petit Trou, specifically in Chevalier, the neighborhood of Petit Trou where St. Paul’s School is located. She attended St. Paul’s until the U.S.-equivalent of 10th grade, and finished her traditional schooling at the public high school in town. She is 24 years old and has two sisters and three brothers.

Lovely says her participation in the solar scholarship program last summer, and in the ongoing maintenance of the system, as one of the highlights of her last two years. Along with seven other members of the Petit Trou community, Lovely spent last summer at one of the premier solar training institutions in Haiti, learning the fundamentals of solar installation and maintenance. Several months later, when the microgrid was installed on St. Paul’s Campus, Lovely was a key member of the installation team, working alongside local partner DigitalKap, a Haitian-owned technology and solar company.

Lovely shared her conviction that “Over time, solar can grow to be a solution for lots of overlapping problems in our community. We always take one step at a time - this year we took a big one.” She continued, “Look at the biggest problems facing Petit Trou - hunger, education, training, irrigation - solar can help us move forward in all of these areas.”
