CHP Receives $45,000 Award for Solar Project
The grant for a solar mounted grid on St. Paul’s School’s campus coincides with a phased redevelopment plan which also involves constructing a new school building that is safe and durable. School activities are no longer held in the building pictured above due to cracks in the structure that have been deemed unsafe. (Classes are temporarily being held in other buildings of the campus.)
Through the leadership of our partners in Petit Trou and the generous support of our friends in Colorado, we've celebrated numerous accomplishments over the past year. As 2018 comes to a close, we're proud to share news of another achievement: the IEEE Humanitarian Affairs Committee, in coordination with the Denver Chapter of IEEE has awarded CHP a $45,000 grant to install a ground mounted solar grid on St. Paul's School's campus.
At our recent holiday event, the Chair of the IEEE’s Denver Chapter, Ian MacMillian, presented CHP Director Wynn Walent with an award letter announcing the grant and pledging commitment to this project. The letter stated that the IEEE had sought a project that addressed "one or more UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a major, impactful way," and which showed "clear understanding of the needs of target communities, and demonstrated a needs-driven approach to strengthening local capacity through technology deployment."

Bringing solar to St. Paul's, and to Petit Trou more broadly, will create enormous impact. The project is timed perfectly to coincide with our phased approach to strengthening campus structures and we are thrilled to be building this into our redevelopment plan. The first phase of this plan is to construct a new building that is safe and durable for kindergarten through 6th grades. We are still raising funds to start construction of this new building and hope to announce the date we will break ground soon!
